Sustainable & Social Architecture Project Summer School

A three weeks long educational programme in sustainable and social architecture to refurbish a house for a family in need in Porto, Portugal.
This year we organise for the fourth time an intensive 3 weeks Sustainable and Social Architecture Summer School from August 5th to 25th in Porto, Portugal.

Programme 2019

Learning Goal

From the course, students will gain a mix of practical work and theoretical input while learning how to collectively design and build social architecture, with restricted budget and time and through this refurbish a house for a family in need.
The participants of the summer school will be introduce to our Research Lab about insulation and heating for impoverished populations. They get the opportunity to know, experiment and apply our research on insulated panels with mycelium, recycled wool, cardboard and alternative heating systems as the rocket stove.
After doing our first summer school producing our insulation panels, we are looking forward to our first project without. We will also integrate our current green roof research to the upcoming programme.

Target group

Architecture and design professionals, graduates, students, PhD candidates, engineers, makers, DIYers, builders as much as people who want to get a first experience in building with a theoretical input.


After successful completion of this course the participants will receive a certificate of participation by the ESAP, Escola Superior Artística do Porto.


Summer school will take place from 5th to 25th of August 2019 in Porto, Portugal.
