International Conference on Advanced Building Skins: Call for Papers & Call for Session Topics

On behalf of the Scientific Conference Committee, you are invited to the International Conference on Advanced Building Skins, to be held 01-02 October 2018 in Bern, Switzerland.

The aim of the conference is to contribute to a multidisciplinary, integrated planning approach by architects, engineers, scientists and manufacturers to reduce the energy consumption of buildings. By fostering a lively exchange between these groups, this conference will shed light on the significance of the building skin, with a view to putting scientific know-how into practice.

We are inviting you to either:

–          present a paper on a topic falling within the scope of the conference (deadline: 15 Feb. 2018);

or to

–          organize a session with 6-7 speakers (deadline: 15 Jan. 2018).

How to apply – Paper proposals:

Proposals should be sharply focused; please avoid an introduction to the topic or a description of your organization. Proposals should include the following information:
– paper title plus 3-4 bullet points

– author’s and co-author’s names

– phone number, email address and postal address

– synopsis (3000 characters) with 6 keywords


See the 2017 program for samples of appropriate bullet points; do not use words like Introduction, Results or Conclusions as bullet points.


You will be able to submit your proposal on our website after 15 December, when our new Speakers’ page will be unlocked. The Scientific Conference Committee will review your proposal, and submitters will be notified by 10 April regarding the status of their submission.


How to apply – Session proposals:

The topic of your proposal may differ from the above-mentioned topics. A session proposal consists of 6-7 papers. Organizers of a session undertake to:
– define a topic

– gather 6-7 speakers for this topic

– attend the conference and chair the session.


Please include the following information in your proposal:

– the Chair’s name, job title and organization
– phone number, email address and postal address

– the title of the session

– synopsis (3000 characters) with 6 keywords
– brief Curriculum Vitae or résumé on page two of your proposal.

Session proposals can be submitted in either English or German and should be sent to by 15 January.


The Scientific Conference Committee will review your proposal. Submitters will be notified by 1 February regarding the status of their submission.


Registration Fee:

Speakers are required to register for the conference by 30 April and qualify for the reduced conference fee of 480 EUR (regular fee is 680 EUR). The registration fee includes lunches and coffee breaks, and the publication of manuscripts and posters in the conference documentation. Full papers received by 1 June 2018 will be included in the conference documentation.
