International summer school ‘Productive Sidewalks’, New York

International summer school – September 10th to 18th, 2018

Organised by Drs. Arch. Hannes Van Damme and hosted in the NYhub for Research and Practice

On Monday September 10th, we kicked off the Productive Sidewalks Summer School at the NYhub. All participants (Students from the KU Leuven, Departement of Architecture and Urban Design/Planning) gathered to explore and research the productive levels of Bryant Park in the center of New York City. After the introduction and site visit we had our first input session at the Bryant Park Corporation by Ignacio Ciocchini, Vice President of Design at both Bryant Park en 34th Street Partnership. The participants were introduced to the +/- 8000 activities the park hosts a year and the different businesses and concessions that are part of the Bryant Park management. With a gross revenue of 16 million every year and a 12 million visitors a year, this park is a important showcase on how collective space is a productive space.
